Mike Herlihy testifies in support of Massachusetts Good Samaritan legislation, protecting design & construction professionals

On October 22, Mike Herlihy, executive vice president and partner, Ames & Gough testified before the Massachusetts Senate in support of Bill S795, an Act “protecting engineers, architects, environmental professionals, landscape architects, planners, land surveyors, licensed site professionals, and contractors who render voluntary services at the scene of a disaster or catastrophe.”  Click here to read his written testimony.

Florida Statute Limits Individual Liability of Design Professionals

A new Florida statute, effective July 1, 2013, gives design professionals the ability to limit their individual liability on a contractual basis for work done for projects subject to Florida law. Certain conditions apply, however, and design firms operating in Florida should become familiar with the specific language of the limitation of liability provision that must be included in their contracts to restrict their potential exposure. Survey: Most Leading Law Firm Insurers See Rise in Malpractice Claims Frequency, Severity

Although the frequency of legal malpractice claims appeared to be leveling off a year ago, most insurers of U.S. law firms now report the number of such claims is increasing, including those involving multi-million-dollar payouts. A new study by insurance broker Ames & Gough finds most leading legal malpractice insurers had more claims in 2012 than the prior year, including a significant increase in claims in excess of $50 million. Chemical Specialty Insurance Program Managed by Ames & Gough Expands Pollution Coverage

For the second consecutive year, the insurance market for architects and engineers professional liability insurance continued its firming trend as a number of leading insurance companies providing this specialized coverage again achieved moderate price increases.  A new survey by insurance broker Ames & Gough finds a majority of insurers expect to seek further increases in 2013 even as their overall claim experience in this line remains flat.
